All too often, the dread of many networkers is getting into a one-on-one argumentative descant with a prospect, the kind of prospect who has 'seen it all', judging from past experiences or by the general opinion, because you don't want to get turned down. Mind you, these such dreaded situations are inevitable if you must succeed in network marketing. In such a scenario:
- Go straight to the point: Introduce the subject of 'Network Marketing'. I usually employ lines like 'what's your opinion on network marketing'.
- Avoid bias: Be attentive to all points opined because they are your target marks when the table turns. And do not forget to put up a smiley face :)
- Be patient: Allow your prospect knock himself out, do not interrupt all too often.
- Load your quiver: Start by acknowledging his opinion as true, but make him see the significant role of 'knowledge' in every business, the 'how' to succeed. A garage owner may make just two sales in a quarter, does that make the automobile dealership industry unprofitable? Answer's 'no', because while Alhaji Audu sits and discusses politics everyday with his peer depending on his 40x30" billboard signage and a few complementary cards, Lanre Shittu lobbies his way into top government parastatals and organizations. So who's fault is it that Alhaji's garage isn't offloading?
- Hit your targets: This part is sweeter when your company's policies happen to be incoherent with his opinions and odiums. Point by point, present to him your company as the exception to his (and often the general opinion). This point is very critical because it seldom provokes obnubilation which nobody tolerates. This was the very cause of my resentment for the first MLM company I signed up with. I backed out in disappointment immediately I found out the truth from a policy handbook given to me on registration. You may eat your cake, but you certainly wont have it by sugar-coating.
- Say the needful 'MONEY': Any business proposal that doesn't succeed at imprinting an estimated profit in the mind of your prospect is pretty much a joke. Use figures, talk money, summarize your inventive/bonus structure as succinctly as you can.
You should be able to take it on thenceforth. With all said and done, you should have altogether made quite a potent impression. With decent follow up, you should expect to smile to the bank in no time.
